About us
The mission of the Polish Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate human suffering and to protect human dignity, without any discrimination based on nationality, race, gender, religious or political beliefs.
We are the leading organization in Poland in the implementation of primary and specialized care services. We also operate as a medical entity and provide inpatient and home-based long-term care medical services. The Małopolska Regional Branch of the Polish Red Cross, as a regional entity, conducts activities in the field of care and social assistance throughout Małopolska - we take care of about 2,000 wards annually. As a therapeutic entity, we operate in the city of Kraków, running a nursing facility and home nursing care.
Our staff, community care nurses provide care for bedridden, disabled, lonely people at home. We perform nursing and household activities. The scope of care and the type of activities are adapted to the individual needs and psychophysical capabilities of the person under care. Service providers follow all medical recommendations and share the therapeutic goal. Nursing services include assistance in meeting daily living needs, hygienic care, doctor-recommended care and, as far as possible, providing contact with the environment.
Basic nursing services and specialized nursing services - general information
A single person who, due to age, illness or other reasons, requires the assistance of others and is deprived of it, is entitled to assistance in the form of nursing services or specialized nursing services.
Nursing services or specialized nursing services may also be granted to a person who requires the assistance of other persons, and the family, as well as a cohabiting spouse, ascendants, descendants cannot provide such assistance.
Nursing services include assistance in meeting daily living needs, hygienic care, doctor-recommended care and, as far as possible, providing contact with the environment.
Specialized nursing services are services tailored to special needs due to the type of condition or disability, provided by people with specialized professional training.
Procedure for applying for nursing services
To obtain such assistance, one must apply to the relevant social welfare centre, which has the authority to grant them and determine their scope, period and place of provision. Whereas the detailed conditions for granting and payment for these services are determined by each Municipal Council by resolution. In addition, the Municipal Council establishes detailed conditions for partial or full exemption from fees, as well as the procedure for charging them. Therefore, the conditions for granting aid may vary from municipality to municipality.
We provide our services in the Municipality of Kraków (Nowa Huta, Podgórze,) Mogilany Municipality, Łapanów, Trzebinia, Nowy Sącz, Wieliczka.
In Kraków, nursing services are funded by the Municipality of Kraków.

Medical services for long-term inpatient (ZOL) and home care
The Polish Red Cross is a medical entity providing inpatient and residential long-term care services. The services are provided within the Home of the Polish Red Cross in Kraków entity, based at ul. Olszańska 5. Services have been provided since 2000 under contract with the National Health Fund.
NURSING AND TREATMENT FACILITY
The Nursing and Treatment Facility is an entity within the Polish Red Cross Home in Kraków. The facility has 42 beds for patients requiring long-term inpatient care.
Nursing and Treatment Facility may admit a patient with a diagnosis of a chronic disease, requiring round-the-clock nursing services, who scored 40 points or less in the assessment, with the Barthel scale assessment card, referred to the nursing facility. The referral along with the card qualifying the patient for admission is filled out by the doctor treating the patient (PHC, Specialist e.g. cardiologist, neurologist) and the community nurse.
The function of a nursing home is to provide periodic round-the-clock care, rehabilitation and continuation of treatment for chronically ill patients and patients who have undergone hospital treatment and have completed the process of diagnosis, surgical treatment or intensive conservative treatment and no longer require further hospitalization in a hospital ward, but due to their health condition and physical incapacity, lack of independence in self-care and self-care, the need for constant medical supervision, the need for professional care and rehabilitation, they should stay in a nursing home. The stay there costs 70% of the patient's pension or disability pension.
The cost of medical services is covered under the contract with the National Health Service.

NURSING LONG-TERM CARE
Nursing Long-Term Care is the care of chronically ill patients residing at home who do not require hospitalization in inpatient units, but due to existing health problems require systematic, intensive nursing care provided at home.
Patients who are chronically somatically and psychosomatically ill, as well as mentally ill patients, excluding the acute phase of mental illness, incapable of self-care and self-care, and who scored from 0 to 40 points in the evaluation with the Barthel scale assessment card, are eligible for Nursing Home Long-Term Care. The referral along with the card qualifying the patient for admission is filled out by the doctor treating the patient (PHC, Specialist e.g. cardiologist, neurologist) and the community nurse.
The services are free of charge, performed under contract with the National Health Fund.

Direct in-kind assistance
The Polish Red Cross Małopolska Regional Branch also carries out programs on in-kind and financial support, including supplying the needy with clothing and food. Those interested in assistance are asked to fill out an application for direct assistance and send it to krakow.biuro@pck.malopolska.pl or submit it in person at the headquarters of the MOO PCK in Krakow, ul. Student 19 or at any nursing facility.

In Kraków at Os. Zielone 16, we maintain a second-hand clothing dispensary. The point may be approached by persons having a referral from the Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Kraków.
